Cobras Take One Set in Loss to Barton

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College men's volleyball team took one set against Barton College, but eventually fell to the Bulldogs 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 16-25, 21-25) Tuesday (Apr. 4) evening on senior night.  

Following a tough 25-22 first set loss, the Cobras stormed back and took a tight 25-23 victory in the second frame over the Bulldogs. Coker jumped out to an early lead in the second set with five consecutive points and held a 6-2 advantage over Barton. The five-point scoring streak was created from a kill and four-straight service aces by Artur Cabral. Next, the Cobras continued to battle during the frame and notched the final two points off errors committed from Barton.

Offensively, the Cobras were led by Artur Cabral, who laid down a season best 17 kills and 22 points. In addition, Stephen Porras made major offensive contributions by dishing out a team-high 29 assists. On the defensive end of the ball, Gary Baker had a solid outing with a team-leading 12 digs.

The Cobras will be back in action this coming Friday (Apr. 7) and Saturday (Apr. 8) when they host the Independent Volleyball Association (IVA) Championship starting at 5 p.m. on Friday.
