HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's volleyball team and third-year head coach Eric Snyder released its 2016-17 schedule today.

The Cobras are coming off a 14-9 season, which was the best in program history and the top mark among independent teams. For their efforts, they finished last season ranked inside the top 30 in the RPI rankings, being ranked as high as No. 23.

The 28-match schedule opens up on Jan. 13, when the Cobras host the East Mennonite University Royals at 7 p.m. The Navy and Gold conclude its opening month with a trip to Penn State, who finished last season ranked No. 12 in the AVCA Division I/II Coaches Poll. The matchup, which was featured in an article by Off the Block, is set to be played on Saturday, Jan. 28

Coker will take on four Conference Carolinas teams in the month of February, including NCAA Tournament qualifier Erskine College. The Cobras posted seven wins last season against Conference Carolinas opponents.

The Cobras open up March with a five-match road trip featuring matchups against Harvard, NJIT, Sacred Heart, Princeton and George Mason, who qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season. The road trip will begin on Mar. 4 and stretch until Mar. 11.

The 2016-17 regular season will conclude with the IVA Championship Tournament. The three-day tournament, featuring independent teams will begin on Friday, April 7.

"We have an incredibly exciting season lined up with multiple Division I opponents and the addition of an inaugural IVA (Independent Volleyball Association) championship post season tournament hosted by Coker," said Snyder. "Our schedule goes hand-in-hand with a group of talented returners joining forces with one of the best recruiting classes in program history.  It's an exciting time for the men's volleyball program at Coker and we are itching to start training when the guys arrive on campus this fall."
