Cobras Close Out Season with 3-1 Loss to Belmont Abbey

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobra men's volleyball team closed out its 2016 season on Saturday (Apr. 9) with a 3-1 loss to Belmont Abbey at home. The match was the final for Coker's four seniors: Luke Grupe, Leshon Alexander, Luke Hansen and Liam Flaherty.

Belmont Abbey took the first two sets of the match, 26-24 and 25-16. Coker rebounded with a 25-20 win in the third set, but the Crusaders would take the match with a 25-20 win in fourth set.

Artur Cabral and Joao Victor Santos led the way for the Cobras on offense with 18 and 16 kills, respectively. Hansen added seven kills and Aleksa Bijelic handed out 42 assists. Flaherty was the defensive leader for the Cobras with a team high seven digs.

The Cobras close out the season with a record of 14-9. Hansen finishes his career ranked No. 1 all-time at Coker in kills (851) and in digs (453). Alexander closes out his career as Coker's all-time leader in solo blocks (47) and No. 2 in block assists (135), while Grupe is Coker's all-time leader in block assists (144) and No. 2 in solo blocks (36). Flaherty also ranks among Coker's all-time stat leaders, finishing his career No. 2 all-time in digs with 364.
