Coker Men’s Volleyball Adds Three

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College head men's volleyball coach Eric Snyder announced today the addition of Gabriel Castro, Josiah Douglas, and Joao Victor Santos to the 2015-16 roster.

"All three guys are high character student-athletes with unique personalities," said Snyder. "They are incredibly humble and have already shown great care and compassion for not only their teammates, but the Coker community as well."
 
Castro is an outside hitter from Belo Horizonte, Brazil where he was a four-year member of the men's volleyball team at Colegio Rui Barbosa.
 
"Gabriel has a tremendous amount of talent and I think will immediately compete for a starting spot," said Snyder. "In addition to his superb talent, his positive energy and upbeat demeanor will add a new personality to an already close-nit group of guys."
 
Castro is the son of Grace Prado and Eduardo Castro. He plans on being a business major.
 
Douglas is an outside hitter from Chicopee, Mass where he was a two-sport athlete at Chicopee Comprehensive High School. On the volleyball court, he was named to the All-Western Mass., All-State and was named to the Rhody Invitational All-Tournament team.
 
"Josiah is an incredible athlete with an extremely high ceiling," said Snyder. "He is a great student along with being an awesome representative of Coker College and I am extremely excited to see his growth over the next four years."
 
Douglas is the son of Linda and Chris Douglas. He plans on majoring in biology.
 
Santos is a middle blocker and right side hitter from Brasilia, Brazil where he was a member of the men's volleyball team at Centro Educacional Brasil Futuro. He helped guide his team to six state championships and three regional championships. He was named to the U19 Brazilian National Team and was named Blocker of the Year.
 
"I believe Joao will have an immediate impact on the men's volleyball program on and off the court," said Snyder. "He is an exceptional talent and an even better person and I think he will help out program get to the next level."
 
Santos is the son of Nubia Oliveria and Joao Santos.
