Coker's Cabral Named Off the Block/Springbak Fan Choice National Player of Year

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Coker College sophomore right side hitter, Artur Cabral, has been named the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Fan Choice National Player of the Year award.

After an extensive five-round online voting process, Cabral was the people choice as the best individual performer from NCAA Division I-II men's volleyball players during the 2014-15 season. He received 56.27 percent of the votes, beating out Michael Michelau of Erskine (20.68 percent), Eric Fitterer of Lewis (12.82 percent) and Michael Brinkley of UC Irvine (10.23 percent).

Cabral, a native of Maceio, Brazil had a season for the record books during his 2014-2015 campaign. The sophomore played in all 28 of Coker's matches and broke four single-season records for the Cobras. He holds the record for most kills in a season with 367, most kills per set, averaging 3.90, most service aces in a season with 50, block assists at 56 on the season, most aces in a match with six and the single-match kill record with 24 kills in a match against Belmont Abbey.

He had 20-plus kills in four matches and recorded double-digit kills in 20 matches. Cabral finished the season second in all of Division I-II Men's Volleyball in aces per set with .53 and his 3.90 kills per set were in the top 10 nationally, as well.

Cabral was also selected as the inaugural winner of the Off the Block Independent Men's Volleyball Player of the Year in April.

Artur is a computer science major and the son of Wladia Bessa and Helio Cabral Jr.
