Coker Concludes West Coast Road Trip with Loss to Division I Grand Canyon

PHOENIX, ARIZ. – The Coker men's volleyball team wrapped up its west coast road trip on Friday (Jan. 16) night with a hard-fought 3-0 loss to Division I Grand Canyon University.

The first set between the Cobras and Antelopes was a fierce battle between two energized teams. Grand Canyon held an early set lead, but Coker would not go away lightly, battling back to tie the match at 21-all. The two teams would continue to trade points, but the Antelopes would win the set 29-27 on a net violation.

The tightly contested match would carry over into set two with the two teams trading points early on. However, Grand Canyon would eventually capture the set 25-18. The Antelopes would use the momentum from sets one and two to take set three 25-16 and the match 3-0.

Artur Cabral led the Cobra offense with eight kills, five blocks and three service aces. Leshon Alexander knocked home seven kills and added six blocks, while Jared Geizer add five kills. Luke Hansen led the defense with five digs to go along with his six kills and Aleksa Bijelic paced the offense with 24 assists.

The Navy and Yellow will take a weeklong break before hitting the road for a matchup with North Greenville University on Friday (Jan. 23) night. First serve for the match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
