HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker men's volleyball team will host the Coker College Invitational Tournament on Saturday (Mar. 15) and Sunday (Mar. 16). The University of Mount Olive, Emmanuel (Ga.) College and Alderson-Broaddus University are all scheduled to compete. The Cobras will play three games over the two-day tournament and open up with Mount Olive on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in the Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium with live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
Leading Coker offensively this season is the duo of Luke Hansen and Artur Cabral. Hansen has knocked home a team-leading 156 kills with 87 digs, while Cabral has 147 kills, 24 blocks and 19 service aces. Devion Whetstone's 39 blocks and Ricardo Ferrer's 120 digs lead Coker defensively, while Ferrer's 645 assists and 23 service aces are also tops on the team.
Mount Olive is 8-9 overall, but only 3-7 on the road this season. The Trojans are led by the 256 and 155 kills of Angel Dache and Steven Cruse, respectively.
Alderson-Broaddus enters the tournament 7-8 overall, 3-4 on the road and losers of their last two games.
Emmanuel (Ga.) comes to Hartsville with a 10-12 overall record. Nine of the Lions' 12 losses have come on the road this season.
Tickets for Saturday and Sunday's matches can be purchased at the door for $5 dollars for adults, $3 dollars for students, and are free to all Coker students, faculty, and staff.
