Coker Goes 0-2 on Final Day of Coker Volleyball Tournament

HARTSVILLE, S.C – The Coker men's volleyball team closed out the final day of the Coker Volleyball Tournament going 0-2 on Sunday (Mar. 2). The Cobras dropped matches 3-1 to Sacred Heart University and 3-0 to Pfeiffer University.

The Cobras would drop sets one and two in game one 25-21 and 25-15, respectively, before staging a big comeback to take set three from the Pioneers, 28-26. The Navy and Yellow would continue to apply pressure in the fourth set, but Sacred Heart would weather the storm and take the set 25-20 and capture the match 3-1.

Leading Coker in match one was Artur Cabral with 10 kills, three digs and one service ace. Luke Hansen knocked home nine kills and added six digs for the Cobras. Ricardo Ferrer handed out 27 assists to set the attack, while Devion Whetstone registered two blocks to lead the Cobras defensively.

Match two was controlled by the Falcons as they took the match with set scores of 25-20, 25-22 and 27-25, respectively. The Cobras would make their runs and turn the game into a slugfest, but errors and Pfeiffer's solid hitting would be the deciding factor in the Falcons' 3-0 match sweep.

Hansen and Cabral led Coker offensively in match two with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Ferrer handed out 26 assists, while Whetstone had four blocks to lead the Navy and Yellow defensively.

Coker will be back on the court next Saturday (Mar. 15) when they host the University of Mount Olive in a non-conference matchup at 4 p.m.
