WILSON, N.C. – The Coker men's Volleyball team dropped a pair of matches against Quincy University and Barton College on Saturday (Feb. 22) in men's collegiate volleyball action. Quincy defeated Coker 3-0, while Barton captured a 3-1 victory over the Cobras.

In match one, Quincy would come out strong in set one and open a large lead. The Cobras would battle back, but the Hawks would capture the set 25-20. Set two would be a back-and-forth affair, but the Hawks would make key plays late to take the set 25-23. In set three the tightly contested contest would continue to get tighter as the two teams were knotted at 14 following a kill by Coker. However, Quincy would use an 11-6 run to capture the 3-0 victory over the Navy and Yellow.

Leshon Alexander led the Cobras with 11 kills, three blocks and two digs. Luke Hansen knocked home nine kills and added three blocks and two digs of his own. Defensively Coker was led by Cooper Lyon and his eight digs, while Ricardo Ferrer recorded a team-high 34 assists.

Match two would prove to be another hard-fought match early on as the Cobras and Bulldogs battled to a 23-23 tie in set one, but costly attack errors would give Barton the 25-23 win in the set. Set two would belong to Coker as they used an early run to take a 7-3 lead. Barton would battle back to narrow the lead to one at 10-9, but Coker's 15-10 run to close the set earned them a 25-19 win. The final two sets of the match would come down to execution and timely hits, the Bulldogs would manage to pull out both sets three and four 25-21 to take the match 3-1.

Hansen put away 17 kills for Coker in game two and added five digs and two blocks. Artur Cabral registered 11 kills of his own, while Ferrer picked up a double-double with 45 assists and 18 digs, both match-highs.

The Cobras will take a break before hitting the court again on Saturday (Mar. 1) when they host Lees-McRae College and Erskine College in a tri-match. Games are scheduled for 2:30 and 6:30 p.m. starts, respectively.
