Coker Drops Match 3-1 to Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Coker men's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss to the Bobcats of Lees-McRae on Saturday (Feb. 15) in men's collegiate volleyball action.

The Bobcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after taking set one 25-17, thanks to a 7-3 run to close the set. The match would get tight in set two as the Cobras and Bobcats battled fiercely with neither team taking a two point lead until the score was 16-14 in favor of Lees-McRae. The battle would continue as Coker pushed the Bobcats to their limit before losing the set 25-22.

The third set would be a dandy as both teams took big leads and eventually squandered them. Lees-McRae took a commanding 13-9 lead early in the set to put the Cobras on the ropes. However, after going down 14-10, the Navy and Yellow would use a 6-0 run to take a 16-14 lead and force a Bobcat timeout. The two teams would go back-and-forth the rest of the set, but Coker would ultimately come out victorious with a 25-23 win to force a fourth set.

The fourth set would be tightly contested just like the second set, but there would be no big comeback for the Cobras like the third set. After a Cobra point to make the score 18-16 in favor of Lees-McRae, the Bobcats would go on a 5-0 run to take a 23-16 lead that would prove to be insurmountable. Coker would tag on two more points before losing the set 25-18.

Jared Geizer had team-highs in kills (13), digs (6) and blocks (3) to lead the Cobras on the day. Luke Hansen and Leshon Alexander knocked home nine and eight kills, respectively. Ricardo Ferrer set the Cobra offense with a game-high 42 assists, while Cooper Lyon had six digs to lead the defense.

Coker returns to the court on Tuesday (Feb. 18) when they take on Pfeiffer University. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
