Coker Downs McKendree in Five

ST. CHARLES, MO. – The Coker men's volleyball team opened day one of the Lindenwood Classic with a 3-2 victory against McKendree University on Friday (Jan. 31) night.

The Bearcats would take early control of the match by winning set one 25-21 over the Cobras, but the navy and yellow would battle back and take set two 25-17. The third set would be a slugfest for the ages between the two clubs as they battled to a 36-34 decision that would go the way of the Bearcats. Coker showed their resiliency as they battled to win the final two sets of the match 25-19 and 15-10, respectively.

Leading the charge for the Cobras was Jared Geizer with his game-high 23 kills. He also added eight digs and two blocks. Leshon Alexander added 16 kills for the navy and yellow and stuffed home three blocks of his own. Luke Hansen led the Cobras defense with a team-high 12 digs and also registered nine kills. Ricardo Ferrer set the attack for Coker as usual, ending the night with 52 assists and 11 digs.

The Cobras will be back in action tomorrow (Feb. 1) for day two of the Lindenwood Classic. Coker will face Quincy University at 11 a.m., followed by a matchup with host Lindenwood at 7 p.m.
