Coker Drops Season-Opener to King

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker men's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 match to King University in men's collegiate volleyball action Friday (Jan. 17) night.

The Cobras and Tornado battled fiercely through the first two sets of the match. Neither team could create separation as the two sets were decided by two points with King taking the first and Coker the second.   

However, King would capture the next two sets 25-15 and 25-16 to claim the match.

Leading the way for the Cobras was Jared Geizer with seven kills, two digs and three service aces. Artur Cabral and Devion Whetstone added six and five kills, respectively. Liam Flaherty and Ricardo Ferrer led the Coker defense with nine digs apiece, while Ferrer dished a team-high 28 assists on the night.

The Cobras will return to the court Saturday (Jan. 18) for day two of the King University Invitational as they take on Limestone at 12 p.m., followed by Belmont Abbey at 2 p.m. Live stats and video will be available for both games at www.cokercobras.com.
