Simpson guided the men's team to eight wins in 2017, including a win over Division I Citadel. The Cobras won two matches in South Atlantic Conference play. Under Simpson, the women's team won six matches, including four in South Atlantic Conference play.

Simpson coached both the men's and women's teams to 6-5 records in 2016, as both teams made the South Atlantic Conference championships. Simpson coached Tom Sizeland, who was named South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week twice, and also named to the All-Conference first team for singles. He was also named South Atlantic Conference Man of the Year, along with being a a member of the 2015-16 CoSIDA Academic All-District and All-America team. Sizeland along with doubles partner Mark Watt was selected to the All-SAC second team for doubles, while William Marrafao was named to the All-SAC singles second team.

On the women's side, the tandem of Jennifer Mezei and Bailey Palmer won nine doubles matches on the year, six against conference opponents. Simpson's duo was named to the All-SAC honorable mention squad for doubles play.

In May 2015, Simpson was promoted to head coach of both the men's and women's teams.

In his first season, Simpson led the Coker women's tennis team to South Atlantic Conference tournament in only team's season of conference affiliation. They posted a 10-12 overall record and a 6-5 conference record. Bailey and Ragan Palmer earned 2015 All-SAC honors as a doubles team, and Bailey earned All-SAC honors for her singles play as well.

In his first season as the men's coach, he led the Cobras to a six-win season, with four of the wins coming in conference play. Junior William Marrafao and freshman Mark Watt earned 2015 All-SAC honors.

Bill Simpson joins the coaching staff as the interim head men's and women's tennis coach in January 2015.

Simpson, a 2013 Coker graduate, returned to lead the Cobras after spending a year as the assistant men’s tennis coach at the Citadel. Prior to his time at the Citadel, Simpson served as assistant coach for the Coker men’s and women’s teams for two seasons, where he helped led the men’s team the 2013 Conference Carolinas championship. During his time at Coker he also helped guide the women to their third consecutive conference tournament appearance.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Simpson was the assistant tennis professional at the Greenwood Country Club in Greenwood, S.C. He also spent summers from 2006-10 at the Smith Stearns Tennis Academy in Hilton Head where he taught private lessons and group clinics.

He played collegiate tennis for the Cobras, earning his bachelor’s degree in physical education and sports studies with a sports management concentration in Dec. 2013.
