Men’s Tennis Edged by Anderson

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College men's tennis team (11-10 overall) was edged by the visiting Anderson University Trojans 5-4 Saturday (Apr. 14) afternoon in South Atlantic Conference play.

The Cobras jumped out to an early lead in the match by taking two of the three doubles matches. The duo of Mark Watt and Henrik Hellbe grinded out a tough 8-7 victory at No. 1 doubles, improving their doubles record to 12-8 on the season. At No. 2 doubles, the tandem of Hunter Horton and Justus Lehman took an 8-6 decision to improve their doubles record to a team-best 13-7.

In singles action, Horton took a 7-5, 6-3 decision at the No. 2 spot, upgrading his singles record to 11-10 on the year. Next, Lehman continued his stellar freshman campaign by earning a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles, improving to a team-best 16-3.

The Cobras will be back in action on Apr. 18 when they compete in the SAC Championships. The Navy and Gold will wait for results from around the conference today to finalize their seed in the tournament.
