ROCK HILL, S.C. – The No. 33 nationally ranked Coker men's tennis team dropped a heartbreaking 5-4 match to the Tusculum College Pioneers in the semifinals of the 2014 Food Lion SAC Men's Tennis Championship on Thursday (Apr. 17).

The Pioneers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on the Cobras in doubles action, but the No. 8 regionally ranked doubles team of Andre Staab and James Corfield would put Coker on the board heading into singles play with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.

The Navy and Yellow would then take a 3-2 match lead over Tusculum with wins by James Corfield (7-5, 6-2) at No. 4 singles and William Marrafao (6-3, 7-5) at No. 3 singles. The Pioneers would quickly knot the match at 3-all with a win at No. 1 singles. Martin Moncayo would waste no time putting the Cobras back on top after capturing a 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles.

Following a Pioneer win at No. 6 singles, the match would come down to the No. 2 singles match. Tom Sizeland would take set one 6-2, however, Tusculum would rally to take the final two sets of the match to secure a 5-4 match victory.

The Cobras close the season with an 11-8 overall record and 9-2 mark in the South Atlantic Conference.
