No. 35 Coker Dominates Catawba 8-1

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The No. 35 nationally ranked Coker men's tennis team earned an 8-1 win over Catawba College on Thursday (Feb. 27) in South Atlantic Conference tennis action. The win improves the Navy and Yellow to 2-0 in conference play.

The Cobras jumped out to an early lead, sweeping all three doubles matches. Coker's hot start would carry over into singles action as the team picked up five of the six matches to take home the 8-1 victory.

Andre Staab went 2-0 on the day, picking up a 6-3, 6-2 victory in No. 1 singles and an 8-2 victory in No. 1 doubles with partner James Corfield. In addition to his doubles win, Corfield picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 4 singles. The duo of William Marrafao and Martin Moncayo also went 2-0 on the day for the Navy and Yellow. Marrafao and Moncayo snagged an 8-5 win in No. 2 doubles, followed by a 6-3, 6-3 win for Marrafao at No. 3 singles and a 6-0, 6-0 victory for Moncayo at No. 5 singles.

Also going 2-0 on the day was Tom Sizeland. Sizeland picked up an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles with partner Zach Grooms and then tagged on a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles.

The Cobras will put their perfect 2-0 conference record on the line this Saturday (Mar. 1) when they face the Bulldogs of Wingate University in SAC action. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
