Men’s Tennis selected Fifth in Preseason Poll

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - In its first year in the South Atlantic Conference, the Coker College men's tennis team has been picked fifth in the preseason poll, the league office announced today.

The Cobras finished last season 18-5, which included a perfect 10-0 record in Conference Carolinas, to go along with a regular season Conference Carolinas title, Conference Carolinas tournament runner-up finish and a No. 39 national ranking.

Coker returns all its starters from last year's squad. Most notably, sophomore Andre Staab, who has been selected to the preseason all-conference second team. He was named conference freshman of the year, first team all-conference and Southeast region rookie of the year in 2013. He comes into this season as the No. 14 ranked singles player in the nation.

The doubles duo of William Marrafao and Martin Moncayo was also named to the SAC preseason second team. The two are ranked as the No. 9 doubles tandem in the Southeast region.

Wingate University took home the top honors in the poll with 107 points and five first-place votes. Tusculum College was next with 99 points and three first-place votes. Lincoln Memorial University was third with 93 points and two first-place votes. Anderson University was fourth at 91 points. Coming in at the fifth, Coker received 90 points as well two first-place votes.

Queens University of Charlotte; 8. Catawba College; 9. Mars Hill College; 10. Carson-Newman University; 11 Brevard College; 12. Lenoir-Rhyne University.
