Cobras Season Ends in Quarterfinal Loss to Lenoir-Rhyne

HICKORY, N.C. – The Coker College men's soccer team ended its season on Tuesday (Oct. 30) in a loss in the SAC Soccer Championship Quarterfinals to Lenoir-Rhyne 2-0.

The Cobras quickly found themselves on the back foot as the Bears opened up play quickly, even hitting the post in the 17thminute. Justin Watkins was forced to make a save in the 20thof play to keep the game level. Adam Garner had a go at the goal in the 33rdminute, but his shot sailed high. 

Coker would get its first shot on the goal in 54thminute when Christian Provenzano directed Lucas Miquel Castrillo's corner towards goal. Lenoir-Rhyne would pull ahead just three minutes later with a goal in the 54thminute. Watkins made a pair of excellent saves to each side with just 20 minutes to play, and moments later Attiyyah Shakir missed on opportunity to level off of a corner kick. In the 78thminute, the Bears grabbed their second goal of the night to put the Cobras away. In the dying minutes Provenzano had an excellent curled shot saved that looked to be going in before an excellent diving saves.

With the loss the Cobras are eliminated from the South Atlantic Conference Championship, and end their season with a record of 5-10-1 and 3-6-1 in conference play.
