Cobras Send Off Seniors in Style

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a 1-0 victory over the visiting Carson-Newman Eagles on Saturday (Oct. 28).

Jacob Simonis netted his fifth goal of the season in the 9th minute, which proved to be the difference for the Cobras. The goal came after a free kick that could not be handled by the Carson-Newman goalkeeper and Simonis was in the right place at the right time to put the Cobras ahead for good.

Both teams came out of half time aggressively, leading to an intense contest that saw eight total cards shown. Simonis recorded three shots on goal and four total, while just missing a 68th minute brace following an excellent cross from Cameron McDonald. Aladdin Elfares recorded the final three of the Cobras' seven total shots on the game. Senior Justin Walker went the distance in goal, recording five saves and picking up his fourth clean sheet on the year in his final game as a Cobra.

Justin Walker, Joby Griggs, Chris Bordelon, Albert Schonhofer, Omar Govea, and Michael Ritterbeck were all honored in a pregame ceremony for their contributions to the Coker College men's soccer program.
