Cobras Shine Offensively in Non-Conference Victory Over Bulldogs

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College men's soccer team had a huge offensive night, notching five unanswered goals in a 5-0 route of the Barton College Bulldogs Wednesday (Oct. 25) night in non-conference action. The Navy and Gold had five different players find the back of the net during the contest. Those players included Jacob Simonis, Aladdin Elfares, Cameron McDonald, Joao Silva, and Francisco Vargas.

With time ready to expire in the first half, Coker opened up the scoring in the 44th minute and gained a 1-0 lead heading into the locker rooms off a goal from Simonis. Elfares was credited with the well-placed assist.

In the second half of action, the Cobras used aggressive offensive play to outscore the Bulldogs 4-0. The Navy and Gold wasted little time to begin their offensive onslaught in the second half with a quick score in the 47th minute from Elfares.

Coker followed up their second goal with another score; this time from McDonald. Elfares was able to find McDonald who delivered a strike past the Barton goalkeeper in a one-on-one matchup for a three goal advantage.

The Cobras wasted little time to tally their fourth goal as Silva buried a shot in the back of the net just seconds later. Elfares recorded his third assist of the night during the Silva goal. Next, Coker extended their lead to a dominant 5-0 score from a goal from Vargas, his first of the season.

Offensively, Elfares had a stand-out night with one goal and three assists for a season high five points. In goal, Justin Walker recorded his second clean sheet of the year and collected two saves.

The Cobras will complete their regular season schedule on Saturday (Oct. 28) when they host the Carson-Newman University Eagles on Senior Day. Opening kick is set for 3:30 p.m.
