Coker Drops Midweek Conference Match at Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Coker College men's soccer team dropped a midweek South Atlantic Conference match at Mars Hill by a 2-1 final Wednesday (Sept. 27) evening.

The Cobras pulled out to a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute of play when Aladdin Elfares delivered a strike past the goalkeeper for his third goal of the season. The Navy and Gold played solid defense for the remainder of the first half and headed to the halfway mark with a one goal advantage. 

In the second half, Mars Hill tallied back-to-back goals and hung on for the 2-1 victory.

Elfares led the Cobras offensively with four shots and Coker's lone goal. Other Cobras who recorded shots included Steffen Husum (3), Jacob Simonis (2), Albert Schonhofer (1), and Cameron McDonald (1). In goal, Justin Walker collected six saves. 

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 4) when they host the reigning NCAA Division II National Champions, Wingate University at 7 p.m.
