Cobras Clinch SAC Tournament Berth with 3-1 Win Over Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. – The Coker College men's soccer team picked up a 3-1 road win over the Carson-Newman University Eagles on Saturday (Oct. 29) in South Atlantic Conference action. 

The Cobras used a Carson-Newman own goal in the 11th minute to gain a 1-0 lead. In the 37th minute, Mads Aagurd connected on a free kick, beating the keeper and giving the Navy and Gold a 2-0 lead, which they would take into the locker rooms at half.

The Eagles struck in the opening minutes of the second half, cutting the Coker lead to 2-1. However, for the ninth time this season, Aladdin Elfares found the back of the net for the Cobras in the 62nd minute, securing the eventual 3-1 SAC win.

Elfares led the way with four shots on goal and one goal. Aagurd scored a goal, while collecting a shot on goal and Jose Herencia finished with two shots, one of which was on goal. In goal, Justin Walker collected six saves, while just allowing one goal.

The win leaves Coker as the No. 6 seed going into the South Atlantic Conference tournament, which begins on Tuesday (Nov. 1).
