Coker Spirit Squad and Men's Soccer Participate in Little League Opening Day

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College spirit squad, men's soccer team and Striker the Cobra recently took part in Opening Day of the Hartsville National Dixie Youth Baseball League at Byerly Park on Saturday (Mar. 21) morning.

The spirit squad and men's soccer team spent the morning packing and selling 1,600 BBQ plates as part of a fundraiser for paying umpires and purchasing equipment.

"The atmosphere of the event was amazing," said sophomore Ali Ammons. "Working together and providing service to the community is what being a student-athlete is all about and we're glad we could contribute our time and effort."

Striker the Cobra spent his time on Opening Day a bit different. Striker was chosen to throw out the ceremonial first pitch and even took a turn at umpiring.

"Having Striker at the game was exciting," said Associate Vice President of Administration and Title IX Coordinator Brianna Douglas. "He made the environment more exciting for the kids. The day was a big success thanks to the hard work and effort of the spirit squad, men's soccer team and Striker."

Make sure to check out a Hartsville National game at Byerly Park on Mondays, Tuesdays and/or Thurdays at 5:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.
