HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College soccer player Brendan McCarron has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District men's soccer team. McCarron was selected to the first team in District 3 of Division II.
"To receive such an accolade is a direct result of the time and effort Brendan puts into his endeavors," said head men's soccer coach Paul Leese. "Brendan has been a captain and leader for us all season, and the things he has accomplished on and off the field over his four years here have represented the program in a professional manner. This award proves that, and I am proud of him for this achievement."
McCarron is a senior biology major with a 3.7 grade-point average. On the field, McCarron, a defender, has tallied one assist in 14 games of action. He was a Conference Carolinas academic all-conference selection for the 2012 season.
Hailing from Tampa, Fla., McCarron is the son of Christine and Kevin McCarron.
As a first-team selection, McCarron automatically advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
The all-district teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America and are intended to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance athletically and in the classroom. Teams are broken down into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
Coker falls into District 3, which consists of Division II schools from Conference Carolinas, the Peach Belt and South Atlantic conferences.
