Coker Defeats Clayton State 1-0

MORROW, Ga. - Giouliano Andrade's goal in the 55th minute of play was all the offense the Cobra men's soccer team would need to defeat the Clayton State Lakers, 1-0, on Monday (Sept. 9). The victory improves Coker to 1-1 on the year.

The Cobras and the Lakers played to a scoreless tie after the first half of action. Coker outshot Clayton 7-4 and held a 3-1 advantage on corner kicks in the first half, but they were unable to find the back of the net.

After the intermission, Andrade put the Cobras on the board when he took a pass from Snell and beat the Laker keeper with a shot in the lower right corner.

Clayton State turned up the offensive pressure, pounding out nine shots during the second half, but Coker keeper Mark Nankervis was up to the challenge as he saved all five shots that were put on frame.

The Cobras will return to action on Saturday (Sept. 14) in their first South Atlantic Conference match at home against Lincoln Memorial at 7 p.m.
