Staub Leads No. 5 Coker to 3-0 Win Over Queens

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Sophomore Tyler Staub (Murrells Inlet, S.C.) was the driving force behind two of Coker's three goals, as the nationally ranked No. 5 Cobras shutout the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte, 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Tournament on Tuesday night.

Staub's first assist came in the 33rd minute of play when Atticus Lum (Advance, N.C.) tipped in Staub's cross to give the Cobras a 1-0 lead. The score remained 1-0 through halftime, until the 49th minute of play Noah Lascell (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) put Coker up 2-0 with a shot past a diving Simen Walmann (Nevlunghavn, Norway) with an assist from Niko Tirkkonen (Hollola, Finland).

Then in 63rd minute Staub earned his second assist of the match with cross into the box that Carlos Recinos (Houston, Texas) put into the back of the net with a one-timer. 

Queens held the advantage on shots 12-7, but James Sweeney (Huntingtown, Md.) was perfect in the net with six saves, earning his ninth shutout of the season and third in a row. 

Walmann had three saves in the match and Queens also had the advantage on corner kicks, 4-1.

The win advances the top seeded Cobras to the semifinals to face the #4 seeded Limestone Saints on Friday at home. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Coker Soccer Field.
