No. 7 Coker Stunned in 1-0 Overtime Loss to Lees-McRae

HARSTVILLE, SC – In a powerhouse matchup, Lees-McRae grinded out a stunning 1-0 win over nationally ranked No. 7 Coker in a double overtime Conference Carolinas match on Saturday night.

Lees-McRae held  possession during the majority of regulation and totaled ten shots, while Coker had nine shots. Sophomore keeper Thomas Rusling (Sheffield, England) made six saves and earned a clean sheet.  The overtime winner was netted by freshman Preston Shahdad (Charlotte, N.C.) who found his way into a scramble in front the net and blasted a point-blank shot home for the win (103:17, unassisted).

Coker defenseman, sophomore Atticus Lum (Advance, N.C.), made two saves for Coker as he stopped a drive late in the second half and also early in the second overtime.  Junior keeper James Sweeney (Huntingtown, Md.) made three saves total.

Coker is now 13-2 overall, and 8-1 in conference play. The loss snaps Coker's 12 match winning streak, giving the Cobras their first loss since Sept. 5, a 1-0 loss to Rollins College.
Lees-McRae improves to 11-4overall, and 8-2 in Conference Carolinas matchups.
The Cobras and the Bobcats are tied for the top spot in the conference with 24 points each. Lees-McRae has just one conference match remaining, while Coker has two.

Coker's next game is at home against Belmont Abbey on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
