#11 Cobras Pick up 3-2 Win Over Lander

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The nationally ranked No. 11 Coker men's soccer team picked up their first win since receiving their national ranking on Wednesday night with a 3-2 non-conference win over Lander University.

The win improves the Cobras winning streak to 10 matches and moves them to 11-1 overall, while Lander falls to 6-5-1. 

In a Coker dominated match, the Cobras were first to strike with a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes of play. Stephen Scrivens (Tampa, Fla.) netted the first goal of the game on a one-timer off a cross from Carlos Recinos (Houston, Texas) in the 7th minute of play. Three minutes later Recinos made it a 2-0 match with a goal just inside the 18 yard box with an assist from Rommel Fondin (Palm Bay, Fla.). 

The Bearcats were not about to go down without a fight and quickly tied the match at two with goals in the 23rd and 26th minutes. Chris Hobbs (Cleveland, England) scored the first goal off a penalty kick and Brett Jankouskas (Palmyra, Pa.) tied the game with a goal off a one-timer from Michael Johansson (Vallentuna, Sweden).

Score only remained tied for about four minutes before Recinos netted the eventual game-winner in the 30th minute of play with an assist from Alan Cuevas (Houston, Texas).

Coker outshot Lander 22-8, with the Bearcats' keeper Scott Playle (Fife, Scotand) making six saves. James Sweeney (Huntingtown, Md.) made three saves for the Cobras. 

The Cobras will be back in action again on Saturday when they travel to Gaffney, S.C. to face the Saints of Limestone College in a Conference Carolinas match at 3:00 p.m.
