Last Second Heroics Give Coker 2-1 Double OT Win

PEMBROKE, N.C. – Coker sophomore Akeem Prendes (Brampton, Ontario) picked a perfect time to score the first goal of his collegiate career, as he put home a header in the 109th minute of play, giving Coker a 2-1 double OT win over UNC Pembroke Friday night.

The win extends the No. 5 regionally ranked Cobras winning streak to nine games and improves their overall record to 10-1, while the No. 10 regionally Braves fall to 7-3-1.

The Braves were first to strike with a goal just before the end of the first half off a header from Sam Miles, with an assist from Braxton Miles.

Coker netted the equalizer in the 65th minute of play with a goal from Stephen Scrivens (Tampa, Fla.) with an assist from Tony Quiroz (Miami, Fla.). The score stayed even at one apiece through the remainder of regulation and through the first overtime and most of the second.

Just when it looked like the game would end in a draw, Prendes gave the Cobras the goal they had been searching for and the win when he put home the game-winning header off a corner kick from Rommel Fondin (Palm Bay, Fla.)

James Sweeney (Huntingtown, Md.) had two saves in the match and the Cobras outshot the Braves 18-12.

The Coker men will be back on the field for their next match on Wednesday, Oct. 7 against the No. 1 regionally ranked Lander Bearcats at home. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
