Cobras Win Again in Conference Play Over Lincoln Memorial

GATLINBURG, Tenn. - The Coker College men's lacrosse team picked up their second consecutive South Atlantic Conference victory on Friday (Mar. 8) as they took down Lincoln Memorial 10-7. With the win, the Cobras move to 4-3 this season and 2-0 in South Atlantic Conference play.

Ethan Irizarry and Henry Haskett combined for the opening goal of the game midway through the first quarter. After a Railsplitter goal Joe Venazio was on the receiving end of an Irizarry pass to put the Cobras back on top and shortly after Venazio would find the back of the net once again, this time assisted by Matt Murphy. Lincoln Memorial tied it up once again and both teams traded goals late in the second quarter as Venazio came through once again with a goal assisted by Irizarry and Murphy fired one past the goalie after taking the feed from Nicholas Maddox to take a 5-4 lead into halftime.

The Cobras came out a little slow in the third quarter as Lincoln Memorial scored the only three goals of the third quarter to take a 7-5 lead. After going down in the third, the Cobras put on a show in the final period as they scored the last five goals of the game. Lucas Hediger found Irizarry to get the run started before Irizarry scored once again to tie the game. Mere seconds late Jonah Robertson and Justin Hopkins connected to retake the lead midway through the fourth quarter. Irizarry tacked on another and Hopkins added a goal in the waning moments of the game to give the Cobras the win.

Chris Hagy was stout in goal once again after his record day last time out, allowing just seven goals and making 16 saves between the pipes.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Mar. 16) when they travel to face fellow SAC opponent Catawba at 7:00 PM.
