Coker Brings in Wingate for Midweek Conference Contest

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College men's lacrosse team (6-5, 3-3 SAC) will bring in the Wingate University Bulldogs on Wednesday (Apr. 11) evening for a midweek South Atlantic Conference contest at 7 p.m. Live stats and video for the game can be found at www.cokercobras.com.

Coker heads into tomorrow's game after defeating Tusculum 17-13 Friday (Apr. 6) evening. In their victory over the Pioneers, the Cobras had a duo of five-point scorers in Ethan Irizarry and Rylee Marsh. Additionally, Matt Murphy, DeShaun Ormond, and Brooks Long recorded three points each. On the defensive end, Ormond had a monster game, causing two turnovers and scooping up 12 ground balls. Chris Hagy collected 15 saves in between the pipes.

On the season, Marsh and Murphy lead the Cobras on the offensive end with 33 and 26 points, respectively. Marsh has buried a team-high 18 goals and has dished out a team-best 12 assists, while Murphy has tallied 16 goals and has added 10 assists. Marsh's season total in assists is good for eighth in the South Atlantic Conference. Irizarry trails Marsh and Murphy with 24 points, recording a team-high 18 goals and six assists.

Ormond, Justin Hopkins, and Charles Stafford have been ground ball machines for the Navy and Gold, scooping up 40, 39, and 29 ground balls, respectively. Defensively, Ormond has caused a team-best 18 turnovers, good for third in the conference, while Cole Theodoropolous has added 13 for the eighth best mark in the SAC. In between the pipes, Chris Hagy has accumulated 112 saves (fourth in the SAC) and has a 52.6 save percentage. Additionally, the freshman goalkeeper has a respectable 9.53 goals against average, which is the third best mark in the conference.

Wingate enters tomorrow's contest with a 6-5 overall record and a 4-1 mark in SAC play. Offensively, the Bulldogs are led by Conor Gronbach and Jeremy Sullivan with 21 points each.

As mentioned, opening face off is set for 7 p.m. at the Coker Athletic Field. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
