Cobras Host Sailfish in Weekend Non-Conference Action

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College men's lacrosse team (2-2) will host the visiting Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish Saturday (Mar. 3) night in non-conference action. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Coker Athletic Field. Live stats and video can be found by visiting www.cokercobras.com.

Last time the Cobras took the field, Coker earned a dominant 13-3 victory over Embry-Riddle in Hartsville on Feb. 25. Rylee Marsh led the Coker offensive attack with three goals and two assists. Brooks Long followed Marsh, accumulating two goals and two assists, while Lucas Hediger, Denton Wilks, Matt Murphy, Ethan Irizarry, and Andrew Dappen recorded two points each. On the defensive end, James Brugger and Cole Theodoropolous caused two turnovers each. Charles Stafford led the Cobras in the ground ball category, scooping up six. In between the pipes, Chris Hagy had an excellent day, tallying eight saves and only allowing three goals.

Heading into tomorrow's contest, Irizarry leads the Cobras on the offensive end with ten points, burying six goals and dishing out four assists. Marsh trails Irizarry with nine points, recording four goals and five assists, while Murphy has added eight points off of five goals and three assists. Joe Venazio has seven points so far, while Long and Wilks have tallied five points each.

Justin Hopkins, Stafford, and DeShaun Ormond have been ground ball machines for the Navy and Gold, scooping up 15, 13, and 12 ground balls, respectively. Defensively, Brugger has caused a team-best eight turnovers and Ormond has added five. In between the pipes, Hagy has accumulated 45 saves and has a 58.4 save percentage. Additionally, the freshman goalkeeper has a solid 8.08 goals against average.

Palm Beach Atlantic heads into tomorrow's contest with a 2-2 record, collecting victories over Montevallo (10-9 OT) and Dominican (12-8). Trevor Keena and Zack Figura lead the Sailfish offensively with nine points each.

As mentioned, opening face off is set for 7 p.m. at the Coker Athletic Field. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
