Fourth Quarter Surge Pushes No. 11 Trojans Past Cobras

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference game to the visiting No. 11 Mount Olive Trojans 6-3 Wednesday (Feb. 21) afternoon in Coker's home opener. The Trojans used a fourth quarter surge by scoring three goals to push themselves past the Cobras.

Lucas Hediger began Coker's scoring with a goal at the 4:03 mark in the opening quarter to tie the game up at one. The Cobras tallied another goal late in the second quarter when Ethan Irizarry fired a shot into the back of the cage with 3:24 remaining in the half. The Cobras and Trojans headed into halftime tied 2-2.

Trailing 3-2 in the third quarter, Rylee Marsh found an open Matt Murphy who sent a well-placed bounce shot by Mount Olive's goalkeeper to knot the game up at three apiece. Mount Olive went on to score all three goals in the fourth quarter for the victory.

The Navy and Gold displayed excellent defense throughout the contest, causing nine turnovers and scooping up 16 groundballs. In goal, Chris Hagy helped keep the Cobras in the game, gathering 13 saves.

The Cobras will be back in action on Sunday (Feb. 25) when they host Embry-Riddle at 2 p.m. on the Coker Athletic Field.
