Coker's Marks Named to Captial One Academic All-District Team

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College men's lacrosse player Dylan Marks has been named to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District at-large team. Marks was selected to the first team in District 3 of Division II.

"This award shows the hard work and dedication that Dylan has put in, both in the classroom and on the playing field," said head men's lacrosse coach David Olliver. "I am honored to be his coach and extremely proud of him. He has set the bar high for future Coker men's lacrosse players."

Marks, a senior, has a 3.8 grade-point average and will graduate later this month with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and sports studies with a exercise science concentration. He was named the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Scholar Athlete of the Year and received the Coker physical education and sport studies department's Outstanding Student Award. He is also a nominee for Scholar All-America honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA).

Marks has been named to the Coker College Dean's List his sophomore, junior and senior year. He has also been named to the conference honor roll all four years, twice in Conference Carolinas and twice in the SAC.

On the field, Marks was named to the All-SAC first team as a defender this season with one assist, 36 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers. As team captain, his play was instrumental in the men's lacrosse team winning a share of the 2015 SAC regular season title, as he anchored a defense that led the SAC in clear attempts and gave up the fourth-fewest goals in the conference.

As a first-team selection, Marks automatically advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

A native of Westminster, Md., Marks will attend the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine in the fall to study physical therapy.

Dylan is the son of Steve and Jean Marks.

The all-district teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America and are intended to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Teams are broken down into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

Coker falls into District 3, which consists of Division II schools from the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt Conference and Conference Carolinas.
