Cobras Collect 8-5 SAC Win Over Indians

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Coker men's lacrosse team notched its sixth straight win on Saturday (Mar. 28) night with an 8-5 South Atlantic Conference victory over Catawba College. The Cobras now sport a 7-3 overall record and 5-1 conference mark, which places them in a two-way tie for first place in the SAC.

The first 15 minutes of play would see the Cobras trail the Indians 3-1, but a 2-0 run in the second period would send the game into the break knotted at 3-all. The Cobra's came out of the break on fire, adding three goals and only allowing one in the third period. Entering the fourth period up 6-4, the Cobras would close out the Indians with a 2-1 fourth period to notch the 8-5 victory.

Josh Smith found the back of the net four times and dished out one assist to lead the Cobra attack. Shane Wilson added two goals on the day, while John Bretton and Mike Martiello each scored one goal apiece. Rylee Marsh was the top assist man, handing out two helpers in the game. Defensively, the duo of Dylan Marks and John Elliott each scooped up six ground balls and caused two turnovers. In 60 minutes of action, Tim Ryan made 10 saves and caused one turnover.

Coker will play host to the Pioneers of Tusculum College Saturday (Apr. 3) in SAC action. The game will be senior night for the Cobras and is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
