Coker's Season Comes to an End with Loss in SAC Semis

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Coker men's lacrosse team suffered a 13-5 loss to the Queens University of Charlotte Royals in the semifinals of the 2014 Food Lion SAC Men's Lacrosse Championship on Thursday (Apr. 17).

Shane Wilson led the Coker offense with three points on a hat-trick, while Mike Martiello and Andy Campos each netted a goal apiece. Leading in the assist department was Martiello with two, while Campos, Timothy Smith and Ryan Maurer each finished with one apiece.

Defensively, Tim Ryan, John Elliott and Dylan Marks led the charge for the Navy and Yellow. Ryan made 12 saves on the afternoon, while Elliott picked up four ground balls and Marks caused three turnovers.

The Cobra offense would get off to a slow start, tallying only one goal in the first 30 minutes of action, while Queens would net seven goals to go into halftime up, 7-1. The Royals would score four unanswered goals to start the third period, but the Navy and Yellow would answer back with three unanswered goals of its own to close the period down 11-4. Queens would score two more goals and Coker would tally one to cement a final score of 13-5 in favor of the Royals.

Coker closes the season with a record of 6-8 overall, finishing fourth in the SAC standings with a record of 4-3 in league play.
