Maurer's Seven Points Not Enough in Cobras' SAC Loss

HICKORY, N.C. – The Coker men's lacrosse team dropped a 17-10 contest to the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne University on Saturday (Mar. 22) in South Atlantic Conference action.

Ryan Maurer led the Navy and Yellow offensively with two goals and five assists for seven points, while John Bretton netted three goals of his own. Rounding out the scoring for Coker was Mike Martiello (2) and Andy Campos, Ryan Vento and Shane Wilson all tallied one goal apiece. Zack Price registered one point on an assist.

The Bears jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the first period and would score two goals and also allow two goals in the second period to go into the break up 6-3. The Cobras would net two goals in the third period, but Lenoir-Rhyne would tag on six to go up 12-5 heading into the final period. The fourth period would be an even battle as both teams scored five goals. However, the lead built by the Bears early on would be the deciding factor in their 17-10 victory.

The Cobras will return to the field on Saturday (Mar. 29) when they host the Tornados of Brevard College. The game is slated for a 4 p.m. start at Byerly Park in Hartsville.
