Campos’ Record Day Leads Coker to 22-15 Win Over Shorter

ROME, G.A. – Andy Campos had a day for the record books as he tied two individual single-game records in the Cobras' 22-15 defeat of the Shorter University Hawks on Saturday (Feb. 8) in men's lacrosse action.

Campos scored six goals and dished out five assists for 11 points on the day. His 11 points and five assists tied the single-game record for both points and assists in a game. Campos now shares the records with teammate Ryan Maurer who set the records last season in Coker's 16-8 win over Young Harris.

Two other Cobras had big offensive days as Shane Wilson and Mike Martiello registered hat-tricks with five and three goals, respectively. Rounding out the scoring for the Navy and Yellow were Mike Maresca and Timothy Smith, both with two goals and Maurer, Josh Smith, John Bretton and Patrick Timothee with a goal apiece.

Setting the table for the 22 goals were Martiello (3) and J. Smith (2), while T. Smith had one assist. Wilson and Maresca also tallied an assist apiece for Coker.

The Navy and Yellow jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead, which was headed by a hat-trick by Wilson in the first quarter. The Hawks would outscore Coker in the second quarter 6-3 to make the halftime score 11-7 in favor of the Cobras.

After giving up the first goal of the third quarter to make the game 11-8, the Cobras turned up the heat and scored six unanswered goals to open up a commanding 17-8 lead. The Hawks would tally seven goals in the fourth, but the third period run by Coker would prove to be the difference maker as the Cobras added five goals in the fourth to capture a 22-15 victory.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Feb. 15) when they host Florida Tech. Face off is set for 4 p.m. with live coverage of the game online at www.cokercobras.com
