Maurer Fuels Coker's 16-8 Win Over Young Harris

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Ryan Maurer was involved in 11 of 16 goals, as the Cobras defeated the Young Harris Mountain Lions 16-8 on Wednesday (Apr. 10) in men's lacrosse action.

Maurer scored seven goals, including a true hat trick in the first quarter of the game. He also handed out four assists and picked up seven ground balls. Joining in on the scoring action was Keith LaClair with four goals, Steven Zolezzi chipped in two goals and Shane Wilson, John Bretton and Andy Campos notched a goal apiece.

Helping to assist on the 16 goals were Mikey Mazzola (2), Mike Martiello (1) and Steve Marciano. Bretton, LaClair and Campos each had an assist as well.

Coker wasted no time getting on the board, scoring five unanswered goals in the first quarter. Both teams scored four in the second quarter, making it a 9-4 game heading into halftime. The Cobras continued the offensive pressure in the third, adding five more goals, while holding the Mountain Lions to just three. Coker added two more in the final stanza and Young Harris scored just one for a 16-8 final.

Tim Ryan and Josh Masciarelli combined for 10 saves in the goal.

As a team the Cobras held a 58-26 advantage on shots, a 51-24 advantage on ground balls and they scored five goals on extra man opportunities.

Coker will finish out their 2013 season at home on Saturday (Apr. 13) against Conference Carolinas foe Lees-McRae. Face-off is set for 2 p.m. at Byerly Park.
