Cobras Cage the Bulldogs, 18-15

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker men's lacrosse team scored 18 goals en route to an 18-15 win over Wingate on Thursday (Mar. 14) afternoon in NCAA Division II men's lacrosse action.

A trio of Cobras picked up hat tricks in the game, including an impressive five-goal performance from Keith LaClair

Wingate took the early lead, 4-3 after the first quarter, but the Cobras responded with six goals in the second to take a 9-7 lead into halftime. In the third quarter, both teams scored five goals, making it a 14-12 game in favor of the Cobras heading into the fourth. Wingate tied the game at 15 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game, but the Cobras put home three unanswered goals in the final eight minutes to take home the 18-15 victory.

LaClair finished the game with five goals and an assist, while Andy Campos had three goals and two assists. Mike Martiello and Timothy Smith added three goals and an assist each, and Ryan Maurer scored a goal and dished out three assists. Also scoring for Coker were John Bretton, Steven Zolezzi and Joshua Taylor. Steve Marciano and Josh Smith each added an assist.

Tim Ryan and Josh Masciarelli split time between the pipes for the Cobras. Ryan made 11 saves, while Masciarelli picked up four.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Mar. 20) when they travel to Mount Olive College to face the Trojans in a Conference Carolinas game. Face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
