Queens Trumps Coker in Men's Lacrosse 14-6

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Coker men's lacrosse team suffered their first Conference Carolinas loss of the season on Wednesday (Feb. 27), losing to Queens University of Charlotte, 14-6.

Trailing 2-0 after the first period, Coker cut the lead in half time a goal from Timothy Smith four minutes into the second period. The Royals regained the two goal advantage just eight seconds later. The Cobras quickly answered with a goal from Steve Marciano one minute later, making it a 3-2 game.  Queens posted three unanswered goals, before John Bretton scored with five minutes left in the period pushing the score to 6-3 in favor of Queens. The Royals added one more goal in the final minutes of the period to make it 7-3 heading to halftime.

Queens started the second half with a quartet of goals, before Marciano and Keith LaClair each scored a goal, making the score 11-5 at the end of the third period.  LaClair would add his second goal of the game in the fourth period, as Queens added another three goals for a 14-6 final.

Marciano and LaClair finished the game with two goals and a ground ball each, while Smith had a goal and an assist. Bretton added a goal and Ryan Maurer and Mike Martiello dished out an assist each.

Josh Masciarelli posted seven saves in the net for the Cobras.

Cobras will hit the road to Florida for their next two games. The first game will be on Friday (March 1) at Florida Tech at 7 p.m., followed by a game at Tampa on Sunday (March 3) at 1 p.m.
