Coker Falls to Catawba, 15-9

SALISBURY, N.C. – A fourth quarter comeback by the Cobra men's lacrosse team fell short, as Coker lost to Catawba 15-9 on Saturday (Feb. 16) afternoon in college lacrosse. The loss drops the Cobras to 1-1.

Coker outscored Catwaba 4-3 in the fourth quarter, but the Cobras ran out of time as the Indians held on for the win. The Cobras found themselves down 3-1 after the first quarter, but they bounced back with three goals in the second half and went into halftime trailing 7-4. The Indians posted five goals in the third quarter and held Coker to just one, taking a 12-5 lead into the final stanza. After allowing three goals early in the fourth, the Cobras scored three unanswered goals in the final three and a half minutes of the game.

Mike Martiello scored a hat trick and he picked-up a team high 10 ground balls. Keith LaClair added two goals and two assists, while John Bretton had a goal and an assist. Adam Zinsmeister, Ryan Maurer and Joshua Taylor scored the remaining goals for the Cobras, with each player netted a single goal.

Josh Masciarelli made 18 saves on 33 shots in the goal for Coker.

The Cobras will hit the field again on Monday in their 2013 home opener against LIU Post. Face-off is set for 4 p.m. at Byerly Park in Hartsville.
