Catawba Hands Coker First Loss of the Season

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker lacrosse team suffered their first loss of the year at the hands of the Catawba Indians on Wednesday night. The nationally ranked No. 12 Indians defeated the Cobras 12-6.

Coker struggled to penetrate the Indian defense early on, but finally cracked the barrier in the second quarter, scoring a pair of goals. At the half the Cobras trailed 7-2.

In the second half the Cobras seemed to find their groove, scoring four goals, while holding Catawba to just five.

John Bretton (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) scored a hat trick to lead the Coker offense, while Timothy Smith (Commack, N.Y.) added a pair of goals. Keith LcClair (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) also had a goal with an assist.

The Cobras will be back in action on Friday at home against Pfeiffer University in their first Conference Carolinas game. Face-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
