Coleman Bess leads Coker Men's Golf at Donald Ross Intercollegiate

MORGANTON, N.C. – At the Mimosa Hills Golf Club, the Coker University men's golf team placed seventh at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate on Tuesday (Oct. 15). The Cobras finished with a total team score of 880 (+40) in three rounds. 

Sophomore Coleman Bess was the story of the third round as he shot four under par (66). Bess birdied six times in round three, climbing up 21 spots on the individual leaderboard to finish tied for ninth with a score of 214 (+4) for the tournament. 

"Coleman was outstanding today," said coach Jackson Bailey. "It was good to see him and the rest of the team improve in round three." 

Freshman Frederick Tindale was just one stroke behind, shooting a 215 (+5). Tindale led the Donald Ross Intercollegiate with 14 total birdies during the three rounds. His best performance came on the front nine in round two, finishing two under par with four birdies. 

Junior Haydon Norwood completed the tournament with a score of 226 (+16). Norwood shot just one over par on the back nine in round one (36) with a birdie. Killian Ryan was able to rebound in round three with a total of 76 (+6), finishing the tournament at 229 (+19). Ryan had a strong performance in round one as he shot two over par (72) with two birdies. Nick Waller shot a 233 (+23), with his best round being the back nine on round one when he shot an even par (35). 

The Cobras will be back in action on Monday (Oct. 21) when they travel to Kannapolis, N.C. for the Queens Invitational at the Club at Irish Creek. Live scoring of the event can be found at www.cokercobras.com
