Coker Claims Second Straight Queens University Collegiate Invitational Championship

KANNAPOLIS, N.C.- After three rounds of play at The Club at Irish Creek, and for the second year in a row, the Coker College men's golf team was crowned champions at the Queens University Collegiate Invitational. Finishing with a combined team score of 852 (E) for the tournament, Coker outlasted second place Charleston by eight strokes to claim the victory.

After winning the tournament championship last season, Coker sought out to defend their title and did just that. Zachary Herold posted a first round 65 (-6) to take the overall individual lead for the Cobras on Sunday (Sept. 17) and set the pace for the rest of the team.

Nicolas Parra led the way for the Navy and Gold placing tied for ninth overall with rounds of 71, 70, and 73 for a total of 213. Herold, Ethan Cairns, and Wanjoo Lee all finished inside the top 20 for Coker. Cairns finished two over to tie for 13th, Herold and Lee both finished (+3) tied for 15th. Daniel Graves rounded out the five-set with a score of 222.

The Cobras will hit the links again (Oct. 1-3) when they will compete in the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate at the Lion's Paw Golf Club.
