Men's Basketball Battles, but Drops South Atlantic Conference Contest to Tusculum

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Coker University men's basketball battled, but dropped its South Atlantic Conference contest to Tusculum on Saturday (Jan. 15) by a score of 74-57.

The teams played to a one-point game halfway through the first half, before ultimately playing to a 20-20 deadlock with seven and a half minutes to play in the period. The teams battled bucket-for-bucket for the remainder of the first half, as Tusculum led 31-29 at the break.

The Pioneers stretched their lead into double-digits early on in the second half, as the Cobras battled back to within single digits multiple times through the next few minutes. Tusculum would extend its lead in the final few minutes to bring the game to its final score.

The Cobras shot 44.2 percent (19-43) in the game, including five three-pointers. Williams Onyeodi paced the Cobras with a career-high 22 points, while Jahnarious Snell also added 16 points. Four other Cobras contributed points in the game. Onyeodi also led the Cobras with five rebounds in the game, while five others were active on the glass in the game. Jordan Jones dished out a career-high eight assists in the game, while Snell and Onyeodi also helped on Coker buckets in the game. Onyeodi, Demar Anderson and Jones each had two steals in the game, while Snell and Raymond Bellamy each had one. Snell, Anderson and Bellamy each posted one block in the game.

The Cobras return to action on Monday (Jan. 17) at Carson-Newman in South Atlantic Conference action. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. from Jefferson City, Tenn., with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
