Men's Basketball Falls to Carson-Newman at Home on Saturday

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University men's basketball team fell to Carson-Newman in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday (Feb. 8) by a score of 77-56.

Carson-Newman led 10-5 through the first five minutes and change, before increasing their lead to seven and then nine headed to the under-12 media timeout. The Eagles would see their lead grow into double digits, before Williams Onyeodi scored a layup to get the Cobras back within nine with nine and a half minutes to play in the first half. Coker would within seven after a Jaylin Stewart bucket with under seven minutes to play in the first half, before two Chandler Lindsey free throws would put the Cobras within five with four and a half minutes to play in the period. The Eagles would re-gain their double-digit lead with two and a half minutes to play in the half, before taking a 40-27 lead to the half.

The Eagles would build on their double-digit lead early on in the second half on their way to the road victory.

Malcolm Kennedy paced the Cobras with a game-high 25 points, while Lindsey also scored 12 points in the contest. Four other Cobras also contributed points in the game. Lindsey led the Cobras rebounding effort with six boards on the day, while Ryan Carfley also finished with five rebounds. Seven other Cobras were active on the glass in the game. Lindsey and KJ Harris each dished out three assists in the game, while Stewart recorded two assists and three others each had one. Kennedy also le the Cobras in steals with four, while Dakota Jennings, Lindsey and Stewart each had one steal in the game. AJ McQuaige registered the lone block for Coker in the game.

The Cobras return to the floor on Wednesday (Feb. 12) at Catawba in South Atlantic Conference action. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m., with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
