Cobras Knock Off Warriors in Road Non-Conference Contest

CENTRAL, S.C. - The Coker College men's basketball team picked up a 73-61 win on Tuesday (Nov. 20) on the road at Southern Wesleyan.

The Cobras put on a dominant performance, trailing just once over the entire game. Over the first five minutes of play the Cobras struggled to find their shot, getting just a pair of layups from Larry Cooper and Jaylan Robertson. Over the next 10 minutes, the Cobras went on a 32-10 run that put them comfortably out in front by 19 with just five minutes to play in the half. The Warriors managed to cut the Coker lead to 11 late in the half before Robertson responded with a pair of made baskets and a free-throw sent the Cobras into the half with a 14 point advantage.

Heading out of the break the Warriors came out with the hot hand, cutting the Coker lead to just three with 12:50 to play in the game after leading by as much as 19. The Cobras would respond with a 7-0 run with points from LaDarius Williams, Khalil Halls, Chase Brewington, and Cooper to push the Coker lead back to double figures. Moments later the Navy and Gold gained momentum after a big slam dunk by Cooper that sent the bench into a frenzy. Coker controlled the remaining five minutes of the game, leading by no less 10 in the final moments.

Robertson led the charge for the Cobras with 15 points, eight assists, and six rebounds. Halls was not far behind with 14 points on the nights. Cooper and Williams notched 12 and 10 points, respectively, while both also pulled down eight rebounds. Kon Anguik tallied nine points and five rebounds, while Giovanni Rivers scored three points. Roy Ellis and AJ McQuaige each chipped in with two points.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Nov. 28) when they face Wingate in a home South Atlantic Conference matchup at home in the DeLoach Center.
