Coker Welcomes Tusculum for Homecoming

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's basketball team will welcome the Tusculum College Pioneers tomorrow (Feb. 10) afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action for homecoming. 

The Cobras last played on Wednesday (Feb. 7) at Newberry where they swept the Wolves for the season with an 86-80 victory. Khalil Halls led the Navy and Gold on the offensive end with a season-best 26 points, which included a 9-15 mark from the field and 5-9 mark from three-point range. Donte Samuels followed Halls with 21 points and seven rebounds. Jake Barrett led the Cobras on the boards, collecting a team-high eight rebounds, two steals and one block. 

Coker first met Tusculum back on Dec. 13 and the Cobras came away with a thrilling 100-97 overtime victory over the Pioneers. Samuels drained a clutch three-pointer as time expired for the victory. 

The Navy and Gold head into tomorrow's game with three players averaging double-digit figures in points per game. Samuels leads Coker averaging 15.5 points per game and has dished out a team-best 2.3 assists per game. Halls is Coker's second leading scorer, accumulating 15 per game, while Barrett is the final Cobra averaging double-digit numbers with 13.7 per game. 

On the defensive end, Samuels has led the Cobras with a team-leading seven rebounds per game and 1.6 steals per game. Barrett has assisted the Cobras on the defensive end as well, adding 1.6 steals per game to tie Samuels with the team's best mark in the category.

Tusculum enters tomorrow's contest with a 6-16 overall record that includes an 4-11 mark in SAC action. Peyton Woods leads the Pioneers offensively, averaging 15.4 points per game. 

As mentioned, opening tip is set for 4 p.m. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free to all Coker faculty, staff, and students.
