Cobras and Bulldogs Square Off in Monday SAC Showdown

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College men's basketball team will square off against the Wingate University Bulldogs on Monday (Jan. 22) in a South Atlantic Conference showdown. Opening tip is set for 8 p.m. in the DeLoach Center. Live stats and video will be available at www.cokercobras.com. 

Last time the Cobras took the court on Jan. 13, the Cobras edged the visiting Anderson University Trojans 78-72 in South Atlantic Conference action. Khalil Halls and Demarco Jackson were tied with 13 points as the leading scorers for the Cobras, and Jake Barrett chipped in 11 points and five rebounds.   

The Navy and Gold head into tomorrow's game with three players averaging double-digit figures in points per game. Donte Samuels leads Coker averaging 15.4 points and has dished out a team-best 2.5 assists per game. Halls is Coker's second leading scorer, accumulating 14.1 per game, while Barrett is the final Cobra averaging double-digit numbers with 13.5 per game. 

On the defensive end, Samuels has led the Cobras with a team-leading 7.8 rebounds per game and 1.5 steals per game. Samuels rebound average is good for fifth in the SAC. Barrett and Halls have assisted the Cobras on the defensive end as well, adding 1.5 steals per game each to tie Samuels with the team's best mark in the category. 

Wingate enters tomorrow's contest with an 9-9 overall record that includes a 6-4 mark in SAC action. Zerig Lolar leads the Bulldogs offensively, averaging 14.2 points per game.   

As mentioned, opening tip is set for 8 p.m. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free to all Coker faculty, staff, and students.
